PUNE: The Jangli Maharaj road, which was once considered the best road in Pune, now stands destroyed and disgraced by numerous potholes. Ever since the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) undertook pre-monsoon resurfacing on a section of this road, the patchwork between Balgandharva chowk and Kala Niketan has been washed out. The top layer of the road from Balgandharva to Kala Niketan chowk, which was last resurfaced by the PMC's road department in February, has not survived the rain that has been lashing the city for the last few days.
Another patch opposite the College of Engineering, Pune, has further added to citizens' woes. Large crater-like potholes with gravel strewn around are widespread on sections of this road, which was repaired just five months ago. Consequently, citizens are paying a heavy price in terms of damage to their vehicles, to their spines, mental stress and loss of time due to slow traffic. The Modern High School chowk on this road is the worst affected.
